(I also love the Harry Potter books, although the two series are nothing alike.) I've always dug vampires, and as a loyal fan of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series, Twilight fills the hole that "Buffy" left.

I totally dug Stephenie Meyers' twists on the traditional vampire legends: vampires don't burn up in the sun; they sparkle, and that's why they avoid the sun. Vampires don't sleep — at all. Vampires can eat human food but it doesn't taste good. Vampires are beautiful as a way to lure their prey.

She really did create her own rules for vampires, and they work well with her story.

Twilight is akin to teen movies for me — I find both addictive. The Twilight movie was OK. Honestly, I have my own vision of Edward, and although the guy in the movie is very pretty, he doesn't look like my Edward. Skip the movie and read the first book. If you're not hooked, then don't read the second book. But I suspect you'll be hooked.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18402727881302171752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8635182102349009610.post-35898144721772361962008-12-30T20:27:00.000-06:002008-12-30T20:27:00.000-06:00Wow, y'all are hilarious. Baseball in a vampire movie! The mind boggles. I can only conclude that Stephanie Myers sold her soul to the devil in order to become so successful and there is some mass evil hypnosis going on.Prunella Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05417020468879289426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8635182102349009610.post-12601447922451275742008-12-29T17:04:00.000-06:002008-12-29T17:04:00.000-06:00At the risk of being tarred and feathered, I refus...At the risk of being tarred and feathered, I refuse to read anything that gets both tweens and middle-aged soccer moms in such a lather. The rest of them, not so much. I've actually blogged about them at length. Unfortunately, Ms. Stephanie Meyer uses the motif of older man falling for younger (read MINOR) woman and having to fend off her sexual advances because he's so virtuous. She recycled this motif in her non-Twilight book The Host, which is nothing but a remake of Body Snatchers.

So, in summation, yes, Twilight is huge. My 15 year-old sister loves it more than anything in the whole wide world, even more than NLT and the Jonas Brothers. My opinion: the first book is worth reading. The rest, honestly, only if you HAVE TO READ THEM.PrincessPihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06101844236916847110noreply@blogger.com
