A Second Home in Antarctica

I don't know how much more of this I can take. Yesterday's temperature was 105 degrees, with humidity that ranged between 35 and 70%. I'm not sure that there's even a word for what that makes the heat index, other than "broiler." Ugh. I took my dog Birdie for a walk at 3pm and she made it about 100 feet out the door before she started panting, 150 feet out the door before she stopped dead in her tracks and looked at me with pathetic eyes, and 151 feet before she made an executive decision and beelined it for a nearby tree to lie down in the shade.

This is ridiculous. I'm moving to a place with permafrost and a perpetual snow cover.

The entire Sawyer family would be happy to go in halfsies on that house. We are not built for the south.

Kate said...

Wait, maybe more than halfsies, after all we are 5 (almost) and you are but one.

Normally, that's NH! But today (gasp) we have sun!!! Glorious sun! We were all starting to look like those freaks in "I Am Legend", hiding in the dark and lacking any kind of pigment.

you can get thru this babe, turn on the bike mood to barton springs, going nude, having loads of water!!!!

Please let the record show that it was moxita, and not I, who suggested Cheastypants' nudity.

(Although I think it's a pretty fine idea.)

LMAO @ Mala!! We were totally pigment-free mutants until today.

That being said, I don't know how you all do it in the South. I am not a huuuuge fan of New England winters, but I hate extreme heat, too. There has to be a happy medium somewhere!

Hang in there, Cheasty!!!

As long as you don't have to stay out in it too long, I think that New England winters are easier than Texas summers. You can always put on more clothes, but you can only take off so many before people start pointing and laughing.

kate - it's a deal. i'll go sixthies with you. ;)

mala and bev - i think you might live in my opposite world. remember opposite day back in school? that was fun. ahhh, good times.

moxita - rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrowl! nudie swims are the best swims. how's the oslo fjord?

frank. duly noted, and i'm totally in agreement. give me a cold winter over 110 degrees any day.

IT'S SO FREAKING HOT!!

Yes, it is very hot here in Texas.

I'm calling the humane society! How you gonna take a dog out in that heat? Bad mommy, Bad!!!

CP - understatement of the year. since i posted this, the temps have hit 107 and 106 in the subsequent 48 hours.

Mr. Poopie - you are right. a good mother would let her pee in the house. :)

I hear you. It's so hot here I'm tempted to move to Alaska. That would also give me a chance to vote Sarah Palin out of office, which would be quite enjoyable.

After a few New England spring days and 18 years of Arizona summers, I have to say that heat>>cold. You can use your dog as a dew-rag.

Cheasty said...

pru - excellent. i shall come with you.

kevin - what was that >> thing. math? i think once i spoke math. does that mean greater than? as in heat is way better than cold? i am mystified.

Kevin said...

> means greater than, >> means WAY greater than

Cheasty said...

kevin, i don't know how to break the news to you, but you are, quite simply, WRONG. cold >>heat!!

Frank Irwin said...

Actually, in Pac-manese, the "x >> y" symbology means that "y eats x." Thus, "heat >> cold" means that cold eats heat, and is thus better than heat.

Waka-waka.

The average temperature in Phoenix for the July just ended is over 109. Not the average high, but the average of all highs and lows. But, as they say, it's a dry heat. Also, I can drive just 30 miles from here and it's only 94.
